Interview with Tank Storage Association Insight Magazine

SuP: Which content formats are currently most relevant for a magazine in the industrial sector (e.g., technical features, expert interviews, regulatory updates, case studies)? Especially as an association media?

Nunzia Florio: The Tank Storage Association (TSA) is an industry based organisation whose members are engaged in the storage of bulk liquids and the provision of products and services to the sector. Published quarterly, Insight Magazine plays an important role in sharing knowledge across the wider bulk storage and energy infrastructure sector, showcasing the latest trends, technical developments, policy and regulatory updates, and innovations that shape the industry.

In this context, several editorial formats consistently resonate with our readers. Case studies, for example, are particularly effective, as they showcase real-world projects and demonstrate how sector participants have addressed operational challenges, implemented new technologies, or enhanced operational performance. Regulatory and policy updates are also highly valued, helping readers stay informed in a changing landscape, while technical features and expert interviews provide critical insights into emerging developments, innovations and best practice across the sector.

SuP: What role do traditional press releases play in your editorial workflow? Which criteria determine whether a press release is picked up, further researched, or developed into a full editorial piece? Are there any trends that you notice from companies or agencies?

Nunzia Florio: Traditional press releases from our membership remain a useful part of the editorial workflow, particularly as potential story leads. They help the TSA’s editorial team stay informed about developments across the bulk storage and energy infrastructure sector and often serve as a starting point for identifying topics that may be relevant to our readers, as well as the basis for a more detailed editorial piece. Whether a press release is picked up or developed further largely depends on the value it offers to our audience.

More broadly, in terms of trends from companies or agencies, we see a growing number of announcements reflecting the key themes shaping the bulk storage and energy infrastructure sector, particularly the energy transition, digitalisation, safety and sustainability.

SuP: How important are case studies, operational best practices, and real-world project reports for your readership? What makes such contributions credible, valuable, and editorially relevant?

Nunzia Florio: Case studies, operational best practice and real-world project reports are incredibly important to our readership and tend to resonate strongly as they provide clear, practical detail as well as tangible outcomes and solutions. When these elements are present, the content is undoubtedly both editorially relevant and highly valuable.

SuP: What level of technical depth do you expect from contributed articles? How can contributors strike the right balance between technical substance and readability?

Nunzia Florio: For Insight Magazine, the readership is varied and spans the full spectrum of the sector, extending to broader stakeholders beyond the industry. Therefore, content should ideally balance technical depth with clarity and readability, thereby widening accessibility and engagement across both industry insiders and broader stakeholders.

SuP: Are there typical mistakes or red flags that lead to submitted articles or topic proposals being rejected?

Nunzia Florio: This is not something we tend to encounter as our contributors have a strong understanding of the publication’s focus and that of our readers. However, if needed, we are always happy to provide guidance or steer submissions to ensure that articles achieve their fullest impact and resonate with our audience.

SuP: What are your experiences with social media in general and LinkedIn in particular?

Nunzia Florio: Each article in Insight Magazine is highlighted across our social media channels, helping to widen both reach and engagement. LinkedIn, in particular, works exceptionally well for us, as it connects directly with industry professionals and stakeholders who are most interested in our content, while driving readership and meaningful conversations.

SuP: How have the expectations toward industry media content changed in recent years? Are readers asking for more strategic outlooks, technical deep dives, market analyses, or practical implementation guidance?

Nunzia Florio: For us, readers are asking for all of the above. And, as mentioned earlier, striking the right balance between technical depth and clarity is essential to ensure that content both informs and engages a broad audience.

SuP: From your perspective, what distinguishes companies that achieve consistent, long-term visibility in your publication from those whose contributions are published only occasionally?

Nunzia Florio: Undoubtedly, contributing regularly and meaningfully improves long-term visibility. Contributors that maintain a consistent presence can both build recognition and keep their insights at the forefront of readers’ minds.

SuP: How would you describe the collaboration with our agency?

Nunzia Florio: Our collaboration with Sprengel & Partner is brilliant. We truly value your professionalism, expertise, and consistently high-quality, engaging content. A huge thank you to the amazing Sprengel & Partner team!

SuP: Thank you so much for your interesting insights!
